When placing in the ground, add fertilizer and plenty of water, especially the first two weeks.
To have them "fluff" in width, trim the top off approximately 3" inches, but only AFTER the tree reaches your desired peak! Once the top is cut it will not grow up anymore, perhaps very slightly.
